The weather was great, nice and sunny with a little breeze. The walk tempeture when we started was about 48 degrees, and warming up.
The zoo animals were all up and about that morning. There was a really good turn out for the walk.
The course itself was two miles, one mile for the two types of diabetes.
I have two teams that I would like to mention, first is Ben's Blue Band.
This was the biggest team to walk. They all had blue t-shirts on, the back had Ben's Blue Band on them in light blue and on the front it said I'm walking for Ben in bright yellow. Then you see a 7 year old boy with the same on his back and on the front it said I AM BEN in bright yellow. He also wore a yellow baseball cap with blue letters that just said Ben. Ben is type 1 so he has to take insulian shots everyday
Then the second team was wearing bright green, and in dark green it said
Aidians walkers. She is also type 1 and has to have insulian shots everyday.
Aidian is 11 months old, she was diagnosed with it when she was 7 months old. Her team was the second largest team there.
Sorry I don't have the total numbers of walkers or the total amount of money that was raised. The team that I was on had 12 walkers and I can't even tell you what our name was. But I can tell you this we raised $1,772.00. Not bad for a small group. I enjoyed my walk and I would like to thank everyone for there comments on my last post busman takes a walk......Can't wait to do it again, this spring is the juvenile diabetes walk. Thank you.

On Saturday September 23, I am going to park the bus, get out and go for a walk. Walking is nothing new to me. I often go for walks, I like to walk my dog.
My dog's name is Hummer, he's about 2 years old, black with white paws,
He is a black lab/ collie mix. I didn't name him, his owners were moving and couldn't have pets.
I use to march when I was in the Army, and ran two miles every 6 months for my physical fitness test. Like I said walking is nothing new.
This Saturday I will be walking at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines Iowa.
It's not a real big zoo, since I have been to Omaha's Zoo in Nebraska. This summer I even went to the Kansas City Zoo. In Kansas CIty Missouri.
What makes this Saturdays walk at the zoo so special?
This Saturday is America's Walk for Diabetes by American Diabetes Association. No this not the first time I have walked in this walk, but it is the first time it has been held at the zoo. To tell you the truth I can't tell you how many years in a row I walked this walk.
Do you have diabetes or know someone who has?
They say every 21 seconds someone is diagonosed with it....
So Saturday I will go for my walk, look at the animals, and raise some money for the American Diabetes Association.
Why am I telling you this?
I'm just telling you a little bit more about me, I like to do this walk, and its the only fund raiser that I do. There are many good fund raisers out there, and there are many good causes . Intead of me trying to donate money and time to everything, I have picked this one.
So I have gotten some pledges, so Saturday Busman is going for a walk!
