lets do it on the bus

Archive for 200608     ( return to current blog )

 It could have been mine....

School started Tuesday, I am driving bus #9. We call it the cow bus.
All our buses have pictures of animals on them by the door so little kids don't have to remember numbers just what animal they need. This has helped little kids a lot. The last two years I have sub on every bus that we have. Done every route. I have signed up and filled in on sports trips when ever needed.
Tonight is night number 3 on bus number 9. The kids I have are great.
It is great having the same kids , the same bus, and the same stops everynight. Beats the stuff I have done the last two years.....
Just to give you a little bit more about me, the last year as a sub busdriver there were only 5 days total I didn't drive. I did the lift bus/ handicap bus.
I am the only one that sub at it last year. Everyone thinks I'm great with the kids. I have 120 sick days earned, that is all they will let us carry over. I have missed fewer hours than anyone in school distict in the last 5 years. I have 158 hours of vacation that I have yet to use. I am often the first one called when they need a bus driver.
Three weeks ago I was told in a letter and by the transportation director
that I was going to be driving bus #9 everyday after school. It's the longest route in the district. I drive for 1 and 45 minutes. The time I spend on the bus is overtime for me. After driving it twice I am really beginning to like it. Like I said same kids, same bus, and same stops.
Well last week, two weeks and a day to be exact we had our yearly bus meeting to go over bus times and changes in the routes and stuff like that.
I found out that night that I wouldn't be driving bus #9 everynight after school.
They hired a bus driver to cover the route, I also later I found out that the new bus driver was hired the same week I was told I would have bus #9.
The reason I am driving bus 9 now is the new driver isn't quilified yet and when she is then I am to show her the route. I understand about the overtime but when you figure out what they pay the bus drivers its not costing the school anymore money to have me drive than hireing the bus driver.
I also understand that I didn't get a bus contract to drive the bus that I am just a sub, just like all the other custodians. Two things that I can't understand,
1. I was told I make to much money by someone who makes 70,000 more than me a year
2. Why couldn't someone tell me before the meeting that I wasn't going to be driving everyday?
However two days ago I got a call, there are several sports trips to football game, volleyball games, and cross country track meets that aren't filled yet.
When I was told I was driving bus 9 everyday I thought I wouldn't do any sport trips, figured I wouldn't need to. Guess what? I still haven't called the person back who asked me about the sports trips for she is the one that should have told me that they hired someone for the bus.....
Sorry riders if busman is a little bit grumpy today......

 Thinking of you

Everytime I think of you, I always catch my breath
and I'm standing here, and you're miles away
and I'm wonderin' why you left
and there's a storm raging through my frozen heart tonight

I hear you name in certain circles, and it always makes me smile
I spend my time thinkin' about you, and it's almost driving me wild
and there's a heart that's breaking down this long distance line tonight

I ain't missing you at all since you've been gone away
I ain't missing you, no matter what I might say
and it's my heart that's breaking down this long distance line tonight

I ain't missing you at all since you've been gone away
I ain't missing you, no matter wat my friends say
and there's a message that I'm sending out, like a telegraph to your soul
and if I can't bridge this distance, stop this heartbreak overload

I ain't missing you at all since you've been gone away
i ain't missing you, no matter what my friends say
I ann't missing you, I ain't missing you, I can lie to myself
and there's a storm that's raging through my frozen heart tonight

Ain't missing you, I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you, I can lie to myself
I ain't missing you, I ain't missing you....

 get ready for a bump.....

We have a golf course just out side of town, one of those where they build houses around it. When people move in it is said they sign a form saying golfers are not responsable for any damage done to the property....
Good thing I don't golf I would get me about 100 balls and pick out a house or two and see how many window I could take out. Bigger the window fewer the points. High score wins. Anyone want to play?
If were not going to play golf then lets have some fun, they have just put in seven speed bumps on the road way. I guess to many people were speeding in golf carts.... I have seen demolation derbys with cars and even school buses, lets have one with golf carts. Bang those babies up.
Lets fix up a golf cart so it goes fast, how we play the game we take one ball and one club and one golf cart. Drop the ball on the ground, hit the ball with the club while setting in the golf cart, then chase the ball with the cart. You may hit other peoples balls and carts. First one to finish the course and the cart is still running wins the game. I see they called security to remove me from the grounds...lets just see how fast I can hit those speed bumps in my get away.

 I love this bar

We got winners, we got losers
chain smokers and boozers
and we got yuppies, we got bikers
we got thirsty hitchhikers
amd the girls next door dress up like movie stars

Hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar

We got cowboys, we got truckers
broken-hearted fools and suckers
and we got hustlers, we got fighters
early birds and all-nighters
and the veterans talk about their battle scars

Hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar

I love this bar
it's my kind of place
just walkin' through the front door
puts a big smile on my face
it ain't too far, come as you are
hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar

I've seen short skirts, we got high-techs
blue-collar boys and rednecks
and we got lovers, lots a lookers
and I've seen dancing girls and hookers
and we like to drink our beer from a mason jar

hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar
Yes I do

I like my truck (I like my truck)
I like my girlfriend ( I like my girlfriend)
I like to take her out to dinner
I like a movie now and then

But I love this bar
it's my kind of place
just trollin' round the dance floor
puts a big smile on my face
no cover charge, come as you are

Hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar
hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar

We got divorcees and a big bouncer man
an old jukebox and a real bad band
we got waitresses and we got barflies
a dumb-ass and a wise-guy
if you get too drunk just sleep out in your car...

Hmm,hmm,hmm I love this bar....

 Letters From Home....

I heard on the news last night that in Alaska some Army solders had gotten back from Iraq. They just found out that there orders had been extended while in Iraq, so it sounds like in three weeks they will return to Iraq. Some had already made plans for vacations and the up coming holidays just to find out they have to go back. Something went wrong somewhere, I don't even want to think what they might be dealing with, just getting home and find out you should still be in Iraq.......This is the stuff they live with and the thought they are being shot at on a daily bases......Hope that gives us all something to think about.

I want to thank nuttymomof6 for posting this and she let me borrow it.
Send a card of Thanks. This is what she had to say. " I sent a card of thanks, this is wonderful. I hope you will all send a card to thank our serviecmen and women and let them know they are in our prayers and we send our love and gratitude."
Go to this website, http://www.letssaythanks.com
you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and send it to a soldier that is currently in Iraq. You don't get to pick who the card is for.
It is free and it only takes a second.

I was on active duty from 1983 to 1987 then spent 18 years in the reserves,
but this reminded me while I was on active duty the letters from home were always nice to get. It didn't matter when they came but it was always nice.
One day I got a letter from a girl in the 7th grade her name was Glenda, she was writing anyone in the army, she was looking for a pen pal to complete a home work assignment. I was the one that just happen to get the letter.
The first letter was just an information letter about who she was and what she was doing, and how I could write back to her at the school. At first I wasn't going to. Then one night while on guard duty I wrote her back, I answered the questions she had asked and asked her a few. I got 5 letters from her while she was in 7th grade. During summer break the letters stopped and I never heard from her or the school again, I still have the letters. I hope she passed the class! I remember how it made me feel when I would get a letter from her,
a stranger was taking the time to write a letter and take the time to get to know someone. If you ever watched MASH it reminds me of the time everyone was writing letters to school children.

Here is a song that I hope you all will find and listen to...
Lets from Home

My Dear Son, it is almost June
I hope this letter catches up to you, and finds you well
its been dry but they're calling for rain
and everything's the same ol' same in Johnsonville
You're stubborn 'ol daddy ain't said too much
but I'm sure you know he sends his love
and she goes on
in a letter from home.

I hold it up and show my buddies
like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, and they all laugh
like there's something funny bout' the way I talk,
When I say "Momma sends her best y'all."
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt
pick up my gun an' get back to work
An' it keeps me driving on,
waiting on letters from home.

My dearest love, its almost dawn.
I've been lying here all night long wondering where you might be.
I saw you Mama and I showed her the ring.
Man on the television said something so I couldn't sleep
But I'll be all right, I'm just missing you.
An' this is me kissing you
XX's and OO's,
in a letter from home.

I hold it up and show my buddies
like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, and they all laugh
'Cause she calls me "Honey", but they take it hard,
'Cause I don't read the good parts,
I fold it up and put it in my shirt
pick up my gun and get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving on,
waiting on letters from home.

Dear Son, I know I haven't written,
but sittin' here tonight, alone in the kitchen, it occurs to me,
I might not have said, so I'll say it now:
Son, you make me proud.

I hold it up and show my buddies
like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, but no one laughs,
'Cause there ain't nothing funny when a soldier cries.
An' I just wipe my eyes
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt
pick up my gun an' get back to work.
an' it keeps me driving on
waiting on letters from home.

Song: Letters from Home By: John Michael Montgomery.

Go ahead send a letter.....
